Beneath The Underworld

HAVE EYES WILL TRAVEL: Augustus X Augustus, Autobiographer. I go places. I see things. I ask questions. I document things. I make things. I rant & rave. I write about and photograph things. Sometimes I share some of them with you. I stay up all night so you have something to dream about.

Knives - For BIG PRINTS

Knives - for BIG PRINTS

I have added a new buzznet subgallery to share some image selections with my friends and with parties who may have an interest in the production of BIG PRINTS for exhibition purposes. I hope you enjoy some of these.

I will be adding some portfolio selections and selections for books at buzznet, soon.

Also, please note: I maintain an interest in all types of assignments. Consideration will be given to all assignments which only pay expenses. I will shoot and provide images on CD for cost of travel in certain circumstances. Just ask.

Thanks !

SHOTS 95

SHOTS 95 - 2007

Isn't this cover gorgeous ?

Well, SHOTS magazine has done it again. The new issue (#95) is available and I recommend it to everyone who loves photography. In fact, I recommend anyone who loves photography might subscribe and help this gem of a magazine continue. SHOTS relies on subscribers to survive. You will not find pages of advertising and filler, just great images from a wide range of photographers who love the medium.

The theme of this issue is "Books * Words". I found something appealing on almost every page. I am sure you will, too. Tell them Charles Silver sent you.

From Sex In Venice - 1993

Untitled - 1993 - Charles Silver

I'm Back ! Greetings to all my friends for 2007 ! Thanks for waiting.

I am posting this image from the portfolio of my work owned by the Kinsey Institute because it was recently included in a group show "Expressive Bodies: Photographic Artists Exploring Human Sexuality - Contemporary Art Photography from the Kinsey Institute" at the SOFA (School Of Fine Arts) Gallery at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. The show will also travel to the Herron School of Art and Design this coming Fall. You can find more information about the show at the link above.

Meanwhile THANKS to all of you !

I don't have much of an explanation for being away. I can say 2006 was a busy year for me as I made numerous efforts towards the organization and production of my photography work and began laying the groundwork for more exhibitions and projects in 2007. I can't say much more about it right now but as things come together I will post about it here and at my other blogs.

I must mention that though I am back I will not have as much time as I did before my hiatus. I won't be able to post as much or as often nor visit as much as I would like and I regret that very much. I am planning to post at least once a month if my time permits it. The only good thing is: that means I am actually busy doing what I need to: working on making things and producing new work.

I hope to see you all soon and Thanks Again !

Don Jesus Arbella

Another project I have been trying to set up is a return trip to the Philippines, during Holy Week this Spring, 2007. Specifically I am trying to get back to Siquijor, the feared and mysterious island known for sorcery, witchcraft, healing arts and both Black and White magic. I have been invited to spend time with Don Jesus Arbella, an 82 year old holistic healer and sorcerer. I am supposed to be with him and his family during the Holy Weekend. On Good Friday and overnight into Black Saturday the healers, Brujos and Brujas head into the jungle hills. Every year, beginning at Midnight on Black Saturday, they gather and prepare their medicines "when God cannot see" them ... if He could, then surely "He would not have looked away from His Son on The Cross".

Sorry if I haven't left many comments at Buzznet. I have been busy (like our President of Vice, at my top secret undisclosed location). Thanks to all of you who asked after me.

I am trying to organize and manage several things. One among them is working with this blog. Finally, I think I am ready to start posting at and communicating from Beneath The Underworld, which is more about process than about any single thing. It is where you can see what I'm thinking about, looking at, yapping on about and doing.

I've been looking back through one of the art blogs I used to really enjoy. Apparently it is currently on hiatus, a pretty long hiatus. I'm hoping it will become active again, soon and have been trying to get info from it's author, Dirk Hine. I am referring to subterranean notes: art on the web

If you've never run across it and you want to look at art from the perspective of an artist then you may want to look through the archives. There is plenty to see.

I've also been looking through a variety of other things including Plunderphonics, or Audio Piracy as a Compositional Prerogative - as presented by John Oswald to the Wired Society Electro-Acoustic Conference in Toronto in 1985.

Musical types might enjoy this piece of underground music arcana. I know I did.

I'm all about Plunderphonics.

I've also been going through some images and starting to look through my negatives again. Soon I hope to have some new scans to post at The Anti Akademie .

Anyway, even though Beneath The Underworld is going to be the place where I blog I will still be posting images to my galleries at The Anti Akademe Buzznet.

I will still be posting to my PRIVATE COLLECTION and, of course, looking at the things you post that I may want to 'steal'. Sometimes I'll drop by and say 'Hello'. I hope you'll do the same.

Better yet, drop by Beneath The Underworld, too.

Thanks,
A EX A
